GHETTO SITUATION RIDDIM

GHETTO SITUATION RIDDIM

The title is certainly appropriate for this tough, edgy, urban styled riddim – or as Street Rockaz Family describes it “our new heavy riddim reggae hiphop”. It is a truly international
affair, with the riddim from this Paris-based label voiced by artists from Saint Martin, Jamaica and England.

Saint Martin’s Ilements, veteran singer and dee-jay Jah Mason – both Bobo Ashanti dreads – and Ras Demo, London-born and formerly known as Demolition Man: “I am here to demolish all evil things”, and no stranger to hip-hop rhythms, voice Ghetto Situation, Tuff Music and Watch Your Friends respectively. It is no great surprise to find them raining fire upon fire on the unrighteous and the ungodly on this dangerous sounding release, via these powerfully-delivered conscious messages. Think people like Capleton and Sizzla, and you begin to get the idea, though these guys are certainly not copyists, and the riddim can certainly carry these heavyweight performances.

The production itself carries a raw, unfiltered energy that complements the lyrical delivery perfectly. Street Rockaz Family has struck a balance between the rugged grit of hip-hop drum patterns and the deep, pulsating foundation of roots reggae basslines. This fusion not only highlights the versatility of the riddim but also provides a platform where each artist can imprint their own unique style without losing cohesion. It’s the type of sound system-ready release that demands attention, pulling listeners straight into the heart of the urban battlefield these artists describe.

What makes this project even more compelling is the cultural and geographical spread of its contributors. With voices hailing from Saint Martin, Jamaica, and the UK, the riddim becomes more than just music – it’s a meeting ground of shared struggles and spiritual resilience across borders. Each artist brings their own history, accent, and approach to consciousness, yet the unity of the message remains intact: a fierce call for awareness, righteousness, and vigilance in the face of Babylon pressures. This international collaboration proves once again how reggae and hip-hop continue to transcend boundaries, speaking truth to power on a global scale.
