MUZIK

With the release of her new single “Muzik,” Toronto-born and Melbourne-based electronic producer Jennifer Loveless offers a vibrant, off-kilter track that feels like a sonic vacation. It’s the first taste of her upcoming EP Around the World, and it bursts with the playful, aquatic spirit that’s come to define her style. Known for crafting hypnotic, sun-drenched tech-house that often feels more like a warm ocean current than a typical club beat, Loveless takes her signature aesthetic into even more eccentric and exuberant territory.

From the first few seconds, “Muzik” announces itself with a rubbery, cartoonish bassline that wiggles through the track like a mischievous undercurrent. It’s not just a groove, it’s a character in itself, bouncing along with a physicality that’s hard not to move to. The beat is syncopated just enough to throw off your equilibrium, giving the whole track a woozy, day-drunk energy. The effect is deliberately unsteady, like dancing barefoot on a warm dock after your second sangria; everything is sunny, surreal, and slightly off-kilter in the most delightful way.

Surrounding that bassline are synths that chirp, mew, and flutter, like mechanical birds or curious kittens exploring a sunlit studio. These errant textures help create a soundscape that is simultaneously artificial and organic, tight yet freeform. The production has a distinctly analog warmth that distances it from the sterile polish of more conventional house tracks; instead, Loveless leans into a wonky, handcrafted charm that’s refreshingly sincere. Her sound design isn’t about perfection; it’s about personality, and “Muzik” radiates with it.

Loveless first made waves with her 2021 EP Water, a thematically fluid project that featured soul samples, highlife rhythms, and even field recordings of marine life. That release established her as a producer deeply attuned to mood and atmosphere, and "Muzik" expands on that sensibility with an added sense of humor and joy. Where earlier tracks like “B L U YOU” aimed for euphoria through build and release, “Muzik” finds ecstasy in the details: the unexpected squelch of a bass note, a playful loop that appears and vanishes, the way each element feels like it’s smiling at you through the speakers.

It’s this giddy playfulness that positions “Muzik” as a standout not only in Loveless’s discography but within the broader dance music landscape. In an era where much of electronic music can veer into self-seriousness or overproduction, Loveless’s light touch is refreshing. She’s not just crafting beats, she’s world-building, inviting the listener into a universe where dance music doesn’t just move your body, but lifts your spirits. Already a favorite among tastemakers, with DJ sets shared alongside the likes of HAAi, Peggy Gou, and Jayda G (who included Loveless’s “In 10,000 Places” on her DJ-Kicks mix), Jennifer Loveless continues to carve out her joyful niche on the global stage.

“Muzik” is not a track that demands attention; it earns it with charm, character, and a beat that bubbles like soda on a hot day. It’s music made for dancefloors with sand between your toes, for rooftop afternoons that stretch into the evening. Loveless doesn’t just make electronic music, she makes it breathe, giggle, and shimmer. With “Muzik,” she reminds us that sometimes the best dance tracks aren’t the ones that drop the hardest, but the ones that jiggle with joy.
